Amber Trail (Jantarová stezka) in Moravia

The ancient road functioned as a trade route for the transport of precious amber. The current Amber Trail / EuroVelo 9 Baltic-Adriatic measures 1,930 kilometres and is one of the shorter Eurovelo routes with serial number 9. The route in the Czech Republic begins in Jeseníky near the Czech-Polish border. In this part, the cycling terrain is more demanding, from the Jeseníky Mountains the trail leads through Olomouc to the South Moravian region. On the way across Moravia, you should not miss a number of unique monuments and natural gems that are protected by the UNESCO World Organisation (Olomouc, Brno, Lednice – Valtice grounds, Kroměříž). The route also includes unique natural sites included in the list of biosphere reserves (Lower Moravia, White Carpathians).
 
A number of fortresses have protected this trade route since time began. Over the centuries, full-fledged castles have grown from the original small fortresses. Many have been preserved in Moravia to this day. Visit Buchlov, Helfštýn or Hukvaldy, which is the largest castle ruin in Moravia. If you are looking for a place from which you would have a wonderful view, then head to the highest point of Moravia, Praděd, or to the confluence of the Thaya River (Dyje) with the Morava River, which is the lowest point in this area.
