Stachelberg Fortress

Stachelberg Fortress: a giant at the foot of the Krkonoše Mountains

Set off for the Stachelberg artillery fort in Babí near Trutnov. Stachelberg is one of the largest fortresses in the Czech Republic. The plan to construct a complex of 12 bunkers was interrupted by the Munich Agreement in 1938. Explore the unique and vast underground fort in an exhibition describing the history of Czechoslovak fortifications. You will also see the reconstructed portion of the system of trenches from 1938. Next to the infantry cabin is a refreshment stand. From Stachelberg you can take the Fortified Trutnovsko nature trail, which leads to other nearby fortifications.
