Michelin’s Bib Gourmand for Eska restaurant
Three Prague restaurants have been awarded a star in the new Michelin Guide Europe.  Eska, which is located in Karlín, has been listed among the Bib Gourmand restaurants for the first time.
Prague restaurants La Degustation Bohême Bourgeoise, Alcron and Field have successfully defended their Michelin stars. Michelin’s Bib Gourmand list recognises restaurants which offer “excellent meals at an affordable price”. There are seven such restaurants in Prague: Maso a Kobliha, Aureole, Divinis, Na Kopci, Sansho, SaSaZu and now Eska, too.

“It’s great, I’m excited about it and I would like to thank all the kitchen staff,” Eska’s chef Martin Štangl commented on the award. The restaurant located in a former manufacturing plant in Prague’s Karlín uses even a bit unusual natural ingredients for their meals and tries to revive forgotten recipes of our ancestors. Thus, customers can taste, for example, dried mulberries, fermented red wheat or spruce oil in their meals. Moreover, the restaurant has its own bakery, where they bake their own bread on beech wood.

“There’s a great team in Eska and I secretly hoped that the inspectors would notice that. I believe that Martin Štangl and his sous-chefs will make a great career. As the chefs say, ‘they have all the ingredients’. I keep my fingers crossed for them and also thank everyone,” says the owner of the Ambiente restaurant chain, Tomáš Karpíšek.
