Cities

Liberec

In the shadow of a world-known hotel and in the embrace of the Jizera Mountains lies a city which probably could not have chosen a more beautiful location. The North Bohemian city of Liberec is an ideal place to spend your holidays in any season, offering inexhaustible opportunities to enjoy active movement, expand your mind, or just relax. Come see for yourself all that the city below Ještěd has to offer!

Jablonec nad Nisou

Jablonec nad Nisou, a town in North Bohemia, is a place where jewellers and stonemasons used to come to learn their craft as early as in the 17th century. Not far from Jablonec you will find Jiřetín pod Bukovou, where Daniel Swarovski was born in 1862. He was the man who built a brand that has become an icon in the fashion world.

Castles&Chateaus

Sychrov

The chateau was originally used as a representative residence of the noble Rohan family and today it is a popular site with filmmakers, as well as families with children. The advantage of the chateau is that it is open all year round.

Bezděz

Bezděz is often called the “king of all castles” for its original early Gothic appearance, which has never been tampered with, unlike most other castles. For this reason it certainly belongs among the Czech Republic’s more intriguing places of interest.

Trosky

The towers of the ruins of this Gothic castle are worth viewing not only set in the picturesque landscape, but also from those steep crags of volcanic origin in the surrounding area.

Nature

Ještěd

At first glance, it may appear that a spaceship has landed on the peak of the majestic Ještěd Mountain. This unusual structure in the form of a hyperboloid, which houses a hotel and a television transmitter, is a symbol of the region. Make your stay even more enjoyable by visiting its restaurant, or climb to its peak and delight in wonderful views of the entire Jizera Mountains.

UNESCO

Czech glass bead ornaments

Czech glassmaking and crystal production have had a tradition spanning many centuries in the territory of the Czech Republic. And in the area near the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains) in the village of Poniklá, a completely unique tradition unparalleled anywhere in the world is alive to this day. Rautis, a company manufacturing ornaments from glass beads, is based there. The secret of production in manufactories is only known to a small handful of people and, as a result, the products are unique.

Jizera Mountain Beech Forest

The Jizera Mountains Primeval Beech Forests, protected by UNESCO, cover an area of about 27 square kilometres on the north-east hillside of the Jizera Mountains in North Bohemia. However, this is not a protection of one isolated area, but an incorporation in existing localities protected under the Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe. This item on the world heritage list includes about a hundred localities in twelve European countries.
