Necronomicon and sci-fi Dune in Hluboká nad Vltavou

Explore Giger’s realizations inspired by the Necronomicon, the horror masterpiece of H.P. Lovecraft, which caught the attention of director Ridley Scott, leading to Giger's involvement in the creation of the Alien. The famous extraterrestrial monster took shape as the artist sought to exorcise his own nightmares by painting demons and mutants. 

Fans of the science fiction masterpiece Dune will also find delight in this exhibition in South Bohemia, as it showcases the Harkonnen furniture.

Franz Kafka – muse of Alien’s creator

The title of the exhibition, Metamorphoses, not only reflects the diverse body of work by this Swiss artist but also pays homage to the great writer Franz Kafka, born in Prague. Inspired by Kafka's renowned novella, The Metamorphosis, Giger crafted a collection of drawings, now on display in Hluboká nad Vltavou, offering a glimpse into the artist's fascination with Kafka's profound themes.

Band Korn – admirer of Giger’s work

The handwriting of the creator of the artistic movement of biomechanical surrealism accompanies the American band Korn. Any fan of this nu-metal icon recalls the famous microphone stand inspired by the statue of the Nubian Queen, which frontman Jonathan Davis commissioned from H.R. Giger. Davis even contributed to the exposition's accompanying text. The prototype of the microphone now stands in Aleš South Bohemian Gallery↗ in Hluboká nad Vltavou.

Hans Rudolf Giger – Hieronymus Bosch of the 20th century

Some experts even liken his stylistic impact to that of Hieronymus Bosch. Emerging from the surrealist movement, Giger infused his art with post-catastrophe skepticism and existentialism, born from the profound impact of two world wars.
