Museums and Galleries

Remembering the past and looking into the future

Journeys of discovery often begin inside museum and gallery exhibitions. They are full of history, nature and human ingenuity and will take you far back into history. Or, conversely, they will show the best that the present has to offer.
And where can you go to visit museums and galleries? Most of them are located in Prague, where within the National Gallery you can go to both a medieval monastery brimming with Gothic art as well as the functionalist gem, the Trade Fair Palace, featuring art spanning the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. And what about lovers of contemporary art? In Prague, be sure to visit DOX, the Kampa Museum or the newly opened Kunsthalle Prague. Outside of Prague, the Archbishop's Museum in Olomouc attracts visitors with its unique collections of sacral art, GASK in Kutná Hora with a kids world of wonder in the shape of Mondrian's painting, the Brno Technical Museum with 17 permanent exhibitions or the Dolní Vítkovice with well-preserved historic blast furnaces. Programme events for families with children, discovery and new experiences are offered by science centres and science parks, such as iQLandia in Liberec, Techmania in Pilsen and the VIDA! Park in Brno. And what about non-traditional museums? Visit the Czech Pharmaceutical Museum in Kuks, a well-preserved Baroque pharmacy, the New Generation Museum in Žďár nad Sázavou or the National Film Museum: NaFilm in Prague, where you will discover how films and filmmaking tricks are created.
