One of the many events commemorating the 700th anniversary of the birth of King Charles IV will be an exhibition presenting a thousand years of the history of coronations of Czech Kings.
The most famous artefact among the Czech Crown Jewels is the Crown of Saint Wenceslas, which became both a state and sacred symbol at the very moment of its origin in 1346. That is one of the reasons why, unlike many other medieval crowns, it has been preserved to this day exactly the same as it was created by Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor himself. To protect this Crown, he even built the now iconic Karlštejn Castle, which will take your thoughts back to the Middle Ages.
The entire history of the Crown Jewels can be discovered at the exhibition in the Imperial Stables of Prague Castle, where you can see what items have been added to the collection throughout time and by whom. You will also find out how the coronation ceremonies developed during the period from the 11th to the 19th century.
