European Adolf Loos

(Not only) Brno traces of Adolf Loos

June 11 2020 - December 31 2020
European Adolf Loos
Architect Adolf Loos fundamentally defined the evolution of modern world architecture. The Brno City Museum has dedicated its largest exhibition to this native of Brno on the 150th anniversary of his birth. Loos is famous for his modernist buildings, aesthetics without adornments, a new concept of space, as well as poignant essays.
The exhibition will present a selection of Adolf Loos’s work – especially his work for his hometown of Brno and Moravia set in the context of the international style of architectonic avant-garde, and it will explain the ideas and expression concepts of Loos’s work. You will learn about the work of an artist that was one of the main bearers and representatives of contemporary world architectonic trends, not only in the Czech Republic. The modernistic dimension of Loos’s work, based on aesthetics free from all adornments, was a civilisation leap that opened the door to acceptance and advocacy of new architecture at the European level. Check out the authentic documents, period and current photographs, models, visualisations and much more. The exhibition is a part of the programme from the national project 2020, Year of Adolf Loos.
