Hamry old-time Bohemian Carnival
In the Czech countryside Carnival season was a time for weddings, dances and butchering hogs. There were carnival-themed theatrical performances and parades of masks through the village. You can see for yourself the Carnival processions in Hamry in Hlinecko, which in 2010 was registered in the prestigious List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The processions have taken place spontaneously over several generations in nearly the same form and the carnival masks have also retained their traditional appearance. You rarely meet women and children in the parade as it is mostly men disguised in the costumes. The cast is usually followed by the brass band.
