Rakvice

Taste wine redolent of tropical fruit

On the former Amber Route and at the edge of the Dyje (Thaya) floodplain lies a subregion of the important winemaking centre of Velké Pavlovice – Rakvice, with its large expanses of vineyards. The vineyards spread across an undulating landscape that provides the ideal conditions for the ripening of mainly white varieties. Of renown is the Veltliner (Veltlínské zelené) from Rakvice with its fine linden aroma, and the local Chardonnay, to which the local microclimate lends the aroma and taste of tropical fruit, is also gaining acclaim.
In Rakvice you can discover the charm of several lanes of wine cellars with gentle ochre or beige façades. Awaiting you at the address Družstevní No. 63 is an ancient two-storey grape-pressing mill, and on Luční street is a row of 19th-century cellars. Also of note is cellar No. 91 in the town hall, located right on the town square. Its façade is decorated with a ceramic crayfish, the symbol of the village.
