Velké Pavlovice

Delight in the colour of the Pod Starou Horou vintners' lane

The ancient cellar lanes seen in many south Moravian winemaking villages are nowhere to be found in Velké Pavlovice. There is, however, a completely modern one, consisting of 15 colourful little houses equipped with archiving cellars.
Velké Pavlovice is among the most important winemaking villages in the Břeclav region of South Moravia. Most locals have their own vineyards, and winemaking supports about 30 families here, with dozens of others producing wine for their own use. Most wineries are located directly below the family homes, so don’t expect to see a typical wine-cellar lane here. The architecture of the new cellars dubbed “la gaudiwasser” – drunken cellars – has divided Velké Pavlovice into two opposing camps. Judge for yourself whether you like the new colourful cellar lane or not. In any case, the wine you will taste here is worth the visit.
