The village of Chyše boasts a beautiful, newly-renovated chateau. It also attracts fans of renowned writer Karel Čapek.
The Chyše Chateau tour route is composed of three parts – chateau interiors, chateau cellars and an exhibition dedicated to the stay of Karel Čapek. The most artistically and architecturally valuable interiors, including the hall with a ceiling painting by Petr Brandl, have been included in the route of the tour.
The place is associated with the name of world-known writer Karel Čapek. He worked there as a private tutor in 1917. Today, he is the main “attraction” for visitors to the chateau, and a lot of his works were inspired in Chyše. At that time, the famous author had yet to write his major works, and the fresh Doctor of Philosophy graduate sought a job there. Count Lažanský offered him work as the tutor of his son.
The tour is further complemented by interesting facts about the history of the building, as well as a narrative about the Lobkowicz treasure and a tale of the immortal soul of a noblewoman that roams the chateau. You can also view the historic interiors of a brewery, where you will be welcomed by a stylish restaurant and traditional pub. Come to taste the specialties of the beer kitchen but, first and foremost, treat yourselves to a Chyše beer brewed according to old Bohemian recipes.
