Libochovice Chateau

The chateau is located in North Bohemia in the area of Českého středohoří (Central Bohemian Uplands) near the town of Litoměřice. The chateau was built at the end of the 17th century and is one of Bohemia’s most important Early Baroque buildings. The collection of Flemish tapestries and precious porcelain from China and Japan is particularly valuable. More items worth mentioning include the zoological and ethnographic collections acquired by one of the chateau’s last owners, the passionate traveller and adventurer Joseph Herberstein.

The interiors of the chateau, open to visitors during the tourist season from April to October, showcase different historical styles from Late Renaissance to High Baroque as well as 19^th century styles. The most interesting part is the salla terrena with striking decorations by Italian artists and the Saturn Hall, now used as a concert hall much sought after by top musicians for its excellent acoustics.

In addition to the guided tour around the interiors with an exposition illustrating what life at the chateau was like, you can also take a look at the authentic un-renovated basement. In the past there used to be rooms ensuring all kinds of services for residents of the chateau. There was a large kitchen with a pantry, icehouse, manor brewery and wine cellar as well as other premises.
