Chateau Nové Město nad Metují

Chateau Nové Město nad Metují

In the 17th century the whole chateau and the estate came into possession of Walter of Leslie, a Scottish constable, who was promoted to the position of fi eld marshal and imperial Count.

It was a reward for his share in the murder of Albrecht von Wallenstein and other Czech aristocrats accused of a plot against the Emperor.

Why visit

At the beginning of the 20th century J. Bartoň, the rich owner of a textile factory, picked out the devastated Baroque chateau as a future family residence. Excellent architects of that time, Dušan Jurkovič and Pavel Janák, rebuilt it into a modern residence equipped with technical amenities, such as a water main, central heating, electric power, telephone, and dining and personal lifts.
