Slatiňany Chateau

A cosy aristocratic manor below the Iron Mountains a short way from the East Bohemian city of Pardubice is situated on the site of an original Gothic fortress from the 13th century. Over the course of centuries, the fortress was developed into a comfortable princely residence of one of the most prestigious families of the old Austrian-Hungarian monarchy, the Auerspergs.

The gracefully furnished chateau interiors will take you back to the times when Franz Joseph Prince of Auersperg with his family was living there in the early twentieth century. You will look into private, children’s and formal rooms on the princely floor as well as into the housekeeping facilities (kitchen, dishwashing room, ice storage room and historic boiler room).

You will be enchanted not only by the chateau interiors but also by the adjoining garden and park featuring a multitude of exotic woody plants, flowers as well as a romantic small lake lined by elegant period benches. Visitors to the garden can have a look at a restored children’s farmstead, where princely children used to learn to take care of animals. They used to adopt the basics of farming, bed cultivation, poultry breeding, letter writing and cooking in a playful form there.
