This royal city, founded in the 12th century by King Ottokar II, still pulsates with life today. The historical town hall is easy to find, located in the city centre half way between two important medieval squares.
The town hall can be recognized by its conspicuously leaning tower. A large number of the historical buildings in Uherské Hradiště were built upon wooden piles, similarly as in Venice, Italy. This is why the town hall building has tilted over the centuries.

Then head to the district of town called Mařatice, where wine is made. The wine cellars here are considered to be among the finest examples of Slovácko cellar architecture, and the Pinot Blanc (Rulandské bílé) from Mařetice winemakers, with its characteristic aroma of sourdough bread, is known far and wide. Near the vineyards and wine cellars is the Rochus Nature Park, where you can follow a trail with a lookout tower, spend a calm moment at the pilgrimage Chapel of St. Roch, or just lie on the grass and watch the grazing sheep.
