Municipal educational trail in Mikulov’s Jewish Quarter

Such a valuable historical site as Mikulov’s Jewish town deserves special attention. That is just the purpose of the educational trail.

The education trail has 13 stops, is roughly a kilometre in length, leads to the centre of the town and connects with hiking trails. It is designed to introduce visitors to all of the important places where what was once the second largest Jewish community in the Czech lands left its mark on the history of this enchanting Moravian town.
Beginning at the Upper Synagogue, the trail then takes in several dwelling houses with Classicist and Renaissance elements that all have their own rich history. The trail also takes in a condominium, a building typical of the Jewish ghetto that was divided horizontally and vertically between several owners and had a number of entrances above one another.

You can also visit a former Jewish boys’ school, a poorhouse a ceremonial hall and a cemetery. An historic 18th century mikveh, discovered in the basement of a house during a 2006 archaeology dig, has been added to the educational trail.
