The Prague Loreta

The Prague Loreta

The Loreta in Hradčany Prague, a Baroque pilgrimage site as famous as the statue of the Child of Prague!

Only a few hundred metres from Prague Castle you’ll find Loretánské náměstí (Loreta Square), where the Loreta, a remarkable Baroque pilgrimage complex including the Santa Casa, enclosed by cloisters, the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord and the steeple with its world-famous carillon, has stood for nearly four hundred years.

The carillon is a remarkable historical rarity; the bells of the Loreta first chimed over the roofs of Prague on 15 August 1695. One of the most admired places in the Loreta is the treasury with the Loreta treasure. The most remarkable of the three hundred works of art in the collection is the diamond monstrance, known as the Prague Sun, fashioned by Viennese goldsmiths at the end of the 17th century.
