Then go to Velká Úpa! A good location, climate, natural beauty spots and suitable terrain represent the ideal conditions for recreation, hiking and winter sports.

Skiport – the promised land for skiers

The renowned Krkonoše resort Velká Úpa is located in the immediate vicinity of Pec pod Sněžkou. The area is generally covered in snow from the end of November to the beginning of April. It’s no surprise that here, skiing is king, and the Skiport ski complex can be found in the town centre – right in the palm of your hand. Apart from  the main ski lift, the complex also includes several ski tows and various pistes. You can also try out evening and night skiing. Next to the lower terminus of the ski lift is a children’s ski park, including a ski tow, and ski rental, service and skiing school. Fans of snowboarding and freeriding will flock to the Snow-Park and it’s high-quality jumps.

All ski tows and the ski lift in the Skiport complex are naturally covered by a joint ski pass.

Enjoy yourself at Portášky

The Portáš Chalets, also known as Portášky, are amongst the oldest, most traditional mountain chalets in the Krkonoše, functioning as a mountain hotel and restaurant and located above Velká Úpa at an altitude of 1,050 m. The ski lift from Velká Úpa to the Portáš Chalets year-round. The 5 km cross-country circuit around  Pěnkavčí peak starts only a few metres away from the upper terminus of the ski lift, which serves downhill and cross-country skiers in the winter. This circuits connects to the Krkonoše cross-country route. When weather conditions are right, you can also try the unusual snow zorbing attraction.

Velká Úpa and the vicinity in the summer

The ski lift from Velká Úpa carries on working even when there’s not a trace of snow on the mountains round about, as the Portáš Chalets are a suitable stopping-off point on the ascent of Sněžka (1,602 m), the highest mountain in the Czech Republic. Take your pick of routes: from the crossroads of the marked hiking trails you can go to Růžohorky and carry on to Sněžka, or go down via the Pěnkavčí trail to Dolní Malá Úpa, or go to the Jan Chalets.

Many other activities are available in the nearby mountain resort of Pec pod Sněžkou and Relaxpark complex, where you’ll find a bobsled run, ski lifts, playgrounds for children, climbing-walls, trampolines and other attractions.
