Unlike Old Town, steep streets, stairways and beautiful palace gardens await you in Lesser Town in Prague. The diversity of the Baroque façades gives Lesser Town the atmosphere of a storybook setting, but it is also a residential neighborhood, and home to the government and offices, embassies and foreign diplomats.

This beautiful place with a unique atmosphere offers a flood of cafes, stylish restaurants, beautiful luxury hotels and also the palace gardens, which makes the quarter seem like a green oasis in the middle of the city. The heart of Lesser Town is Lesser Town Square with the Baroque Church of St. Nicholas and its impressive dome and bell tower. Whoever likes Czech beer should stop at U Glaubiců, which has been home to a renowned pub for over 700 years. The Royal Route also runs through Lesser Town; from Old Town it passes over Charles Bridge onto Bridge Street on Lesser Town Square, where Neruda Street then steeply rises to Prague Castle.

Romantic souls will enjoy other spots, such as Kampa Island enveloped by Čertovka, the Baroque and Renaissance palace gardens below Prague Castle, Vrtba Garden, and the narrow lanes around Maltese Square. A unique view of the historic center of Prague can be seen from the slopes of Petřín. A funicular will take you to the top and an observation tower, mirror maze and the Štefánik Observatory await you there. The Franz Kafka Museum is housed in the Herget Brickworks, and art lovers will enjoy the Waldstein riding school, where the Prague National Gallery organizes exhibitions. Vrtba Garden in Prague

This terraced Baroque garden in the Italian style is situated on Petřín hill. Although just a few steps away from Lesser Town Square and Charles Bridge, finding it requires a great deal of attention. Passers-by tend to miss the garden’s entrance, however, if you make the Vrtba Garden your destination and pay attention to the signposts, you will find it.
