For decades Prague has been the go-to place for tourists in Czechia. The city has also been the leader in sustainable tourism in the country and is the benchmark for other municipalities to follow.

Prague's sustainability strategy

The capital is committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030 and eliminating them entirely by 2050. Among the actions that are to take place in Prague is the planting of 1 million new trees, which will  make the city even greener and top the list among the greenest cities in the world. The city´s airport plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. The city council offers free public transport for conference delegates, single use plastic cups and containers will soon be outlawed. These are just a few of the actions that are leading the way to a sustainable future for the city, country and Europe.

Green hotel initiatives

Hotels in Prague have also jumped on the sustainability bandwagon, while maintaining their high quality service. Mosaic House, for example, offers its guests a carbon-footprint free stay, thanks to its water recycling and green energy.  Hotel Botanique is another example; using a unique “Be Green” system where eco-friendly and organic materials are used and offered to their guests and their pets. If you venture outside of Prague, Chateau Mcely became the first five-star green hotel in Czechia and the second in Europe.

Eco friendly eateries

Restaurants too have stepped up their sustainability philosophy. There´s an extensive choice of vegan and vegetarian restaurants, whose meat-free catering strategy is helping to reduce greenhouse gasses. Recommended must visits include:

Farmer's markets

The resurgence of farmer’s markets has also taken place. Not only does it offer alternatives to grocery shopping in supermarkets, but one can get fresh organic, non-organic and locally grown products. The fresh produce you can buy there significantly reduces the carbon footprint, and at the same time you are doing your part in supporting sustainable agriculture. The best markets are on Náplavka, Jiřák or Holešovice

Beyond Prague

Czechia has much more to offer than just Prague. The countryside is both beautiful and diverse.  For this reason Czechs set off to the country on weekends and holidays en masse.  We invite visitors to Czechia to come and experience nature, learn about Czech traditions and the local lifestyle.
