As part of the Year of Czech Music, on 2 March Czechs celebrate the birthday of composer Bedřich Smetana.

The National Theatre has prepared a live and open-air broadcast of the concert on a large screen on the piazzetta (Václav Havel Square). The musical afternoon, called Smetana Party, will offer a live broadcast of the gala concert, pleasant seating (in the warmth of the gas burners), cold and hot drinks, small snacks for purchase and an accompanying programme.
The National Theatre has prepared a gala concert with gems from Smetana´s operatic works performed by the best Czech and Slovak soloists. The programme will include works from the operas such are The Bartered Bride, Viola, Dalibor, The Carpenters in Bohemia, The Two Widows, The Mouthpiece and others.

The ensemble of the National Theatre Ballet, headed by prima ballerina Nikola Márová, will perform salon folk dances called Czech Beseda, interviews with special guests during the afternoon. There are prepared 80 seats and another 400 standing places. There is always a place for every fan of Czech music.
