The Benedictines in the Heart of Europe Exhibition
The National Gallery in the Wallenstein Riding School has prepared an exhibition “Open the Gate of Paradise: The Benedictines in the Heart of Europe, 800–1300". More than 250 architectural and sculptural exhibits are gathered here, as well as monuments of book paintings or goldsmith crafts. The exhibits are on loan from major collections and religious institutions from seven European countries. One of the most valuable works being exhibited is the Codex Vyssegradensis (Vyšehradský kodex), the most famous illuminated manuscript of the Romanesque period in the Czech territory. The National library is making its original available to the public for the first time. The exhibition will be complemented by another exhibition at the Klementinum Gallery in the National Library of the Czech Republic, which shall present the production of the Břevnov scriptorium at the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries.
