John Lennon Wall

John Lennon Wall

Leave a message to the world

It used to be called the “Wailing Wall” and people used it as canvas for their love notes. In the 1980s, after the death of John Lennon, it became the symbol of resistance against the totalitarian Communist government. Today the Lennon Wall is still very popular among Prague’s inhabitants as well as tourists. What will be your message to Prague?
The pacifist legacy of John Lennon is still alive in Prague. Enter the Velkopřevorské Square and see the famous Lennon Wall, on which people scribbles snippets of songs by The Beatles as well as anti-regime diatribes. The Communist government attempted to hide the messages by repeatedly painting them over, but they kept appearing over and over again. Today the wall symbolizes liberal ideas, love and peace – in the vein of the philosophy of John Lennon.
